The year's conference saw the induction of three Lifetime Fellows to the British Society of Sports History. These being Fiona Skillen, Carol Osborne and Dave Day.

Fiona Skillen

Fiona Skillen is a Professor of History at Glasgow Caledonian University. Her main interests are in the field of modern history and, in particular, sport, gender, health and changes in popular culture. Her recent work has examined women's sports participation and sports heritage and played a large part in the recent touring exhibition featuring Rutherglen Ladies Football Club. She was also a former chair of the BSSH and an executive committee member of Scottish Women in Sport. In that later role, she helped initiate the SWIS's hall of fame, which saw the induction of the women's football pioneers Helen Matthew and Edna Neillis. 

Carol Osborne

Carol Osborne is a former Lecturer in the History of Sport and Leisure at Leeds Beckett University and is now an independent researcher. Her research and publications have focused on women in sports history, gender relations in sport, and British climbing history. She sat on the BSSH's Executive Committee between 2007 and 2017 and has worked as a guest editor on special issues of the society's journal, Sport in History.

Dave Day

Dave Day is a recently retired Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he led the International Sports and Leisure History research team. He has published widely on nineteenth and twentieth-century sport, focusing on coaching, training and the history of the swimming families, such as the Beckwith and Howarth families. Dave is currently working on two books related to the historical transmission of coaching knowledge in Europe and between the UK and North America. He also serves on the board of trustees for the BSSH.
