The 2025 Richard Cox Postgraduate Prize has been awarded to Stuart Gibbs of Manchester Metropolitan University for his paper 'Lady Florence Dixie and the Football Girls'. This paper examines Lady Florence Dixie, a figure closely associated with sports and the role she played in the British Ladies Football Club. The paper argues that Dixie's involvement was not as extensive as often portrayed. The contrast between the backgrounds of many of the players and the middle-class image they promoted was one of the factors which led to her withdrawal within a few months of joining the British Ladies.
