The publication of a new women's football history seems to be becoming an annual event, as the Histories of Women's Football in Britain and Ireland was published last week. A well-attended launch event was held at the Embassy of Ireland in London featuring many of the book's authors. Deputy Ambassador Orla Mc Breen gave an opening address in which she highlighted the contribution of Irish players Katie McCabe and Leanne Kiernan to the WFL and hailed the role football played in strengthening the bond between Ireland and Britain.
This new volume is edited by Dr Gary James, Helena Byrne and Professor Fiona Skillen of the BSSH and aims to explore the growth and development of women's football in Britain and Ireland. The book boasts a wide range of contributors, including historians, heritage practitioners, playwrights and television documentary makers.
Histories of Women's Football In Britain and Ireland is now available from Peter Lang, and copies can be ordered here https://www.peterlang.com/document/1311869
