Aberdare Literary Prize for Sports History

Aberdare Literary Prize for Sports History

Winner announced

The winner of the Aberdare Literary Prize for Sports History for 2010 is The 1972 Munich Olympics and the Making of Modern Germany by Kay Schiller and Christopher Young. The committee was unanimous in concluding that it was the stand-out book this year. It is comprehensive, scholarly, meticulously researched and makes a serious contribution to the history of the Olympic movement. The coverage of Olympic politics and of sport and its part in Cold War cultural relations is very thorough. At the same time it makes a powerful contribution to our understanding of post-war Germany. It will stand as the definitive academic work on the 1972 Games for many years.
